Bold florals and power prints

Vibrant prints rule this season's fashion. Florals regularly resurface in Spring and Summer but forget ditsy daisies and miniature roses-this year's look is bright, big and bold.
To be right on trend, avoid overly co-ordinated outfits, ditch chintzy dresses for tailored pieces in statement prints, and combine florals with colour blocks, preferably pastels. Or be daring, borrow a leaf from queen of prints Mary Katrantzou and layer different floral prints-just be sure you are confident enough to pull this bold look off.

Flowers aren't the only print blooming this season, however. The catwalks were awash with gigantic polka dots (Moschino), paisley (Jil Sander, Stella McCartney, Jonathan Saunders), fruit and vegetables (Dolce & Gabbana), and all sorts of patterns. Prints were often mixed and matched, and worn head to toe.

The high street too is offering just about every imaginable print, from tribal and geometric to kaleidoscopic and animal (Topshop, Monsoon and Miss Selfridge, among others). But if the full-on look is too daring for you, pair a patterned piece with simpler ones-a busy skirt with a plain top, for example. To give the trend a sophisticated twist, choose black, grey or neutrals to offset a strong print.
